I'm on sprint now, do I need to flash Fi specific build?

I'm on sprint with an unlocked Google play 64gb nexus 6 with build version LMY48I currently. Once I port my number do I need to flash the factory image for Fi only or will the sim detect its on project fi and update itself? Thanks

Bump for this...I am still on Project Fi, but using an original Sprint build. My wife has said my phone sucks since getting Project Fi and it goes to voicemail a lot now. I noticed that the handover isn't so great if I am in a bad area, typically when I see an H appear next to my signal it sucks the worst.

I wonder if flashing a Project Fi specific factory image would resolve this? I am thinking of doing that, or waiting til marshmallow comes out and hope they perhaps come out with one unified build.

The official word is that you don't need "the Fi build" for your phone to work on Fi - my phone has been running fine on the "T-Mobile only" build since I bought it from Motorola - except for the known "missed calls" bug(s) due to being on Sprint and WiFi at the same time (which is why I leave my phone in Airplane mode with WiFi turned back on while at home, where I get the strongest Sprint signal). From what I have heard (no official word on a "fix" from Google) this issue has been around on Sprint for a while (before Fi) and is an issue with Sprint's network. Makes my life a PITA when I leave home and forget to turn off Airplane mode, but the phone works fine on WiFi while at home and on T-Mobile/Sprint cell only when away.

Some folks claim their phone "works better" on Fi after they flash the "Fi Only" build, but there are other folks who have said that after flashing the "Fi Only" build they let the next OTA come through and it pushed them back to one of the other builds (IOW, forcing a flash to another build might mean you have to reject OTAs after).

I'm in the "waiting for another week or few" camp, hoping that a Marmallow-based Fi build will fix some issues, allow support for more phones, and bring a more unified build landscape.

I purchased my phone originally through google direct, so its an unlocked device, so I thought of doing the fi specific build but never felt like it to restore my settings/apps. I am wondering once marshmallow is released if they will somehow condense the builds into 1 build that will just detect which carrier your on, so their arent so many build versions, but I doubt it.

Lately at home or work I've been doing the airplane mode / wifi only to use less battery and its worked great this way for saving battery. My signal at works bad and the cell radio looking for a signal was horrific on battery life.

The annoying part for me is places I used to have a good sprint signal, with Fi I don't even get a signal or very minimal. Its odd knowing its the same carrier but a toned down service at times.

Overall for the cost I am dealing with it and liking the wifi option for calling. Can't wait for marshmallow.
