Hi all. I'm a complete newbie to both android and this forum so I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. I just got my new phone the other day and so far everything seems to be going great with it. However, I just today noticed something is off with my contacts. So when I linked up my gmail account, it wanted to pull the email addresses, etc into my people contact list. I dont want those people listed in my address book so I have it set to only show phone contacts. When I use the phone app, it works right and is only displaying those people. However, I just realized that when I go to access my messages application, when I go to send a new message, I have all of those extra gmail contacts which I dont want in there. It's giving me options for groups, which I dont really want to set up. I rarely ever used this gmail account so I dont really want to pull those contacts, not to mention it just clutters everything up with the duplicated names, etc. I guess I dont understand why the messages part wants to pull so many more pieces of information when I already had made that setting change in my people directory to not use or display that information.

Have you tried going into setting > accounts & sync and select gmail then uncheck sync contacts?

I just tried that and it didnt work. My "people" part is fine but I still have the dups and extra addresses that I dont want under messages. I even rebooted my phone and no change...

Since I hadnt really used this account in several years, I ended up just dumping everyone out of my gmail account so there's nothing extra to sync up. I know that'll change if I end up using it more though so I'm still open to ideas. Also, thankfully mine hasnt had the idea to do it yet, but my bf's new Evo (he got it same day as I got my shift) decided to import and duplicate his fb contacts so that's all screwy too. I'm overall liking the phone but the complete messaging/interaction/contacts merge I'm not so fond of.
