In-call volume too low on Evo 4g

just got the Evo about 5 days ago. And I have to say that this device is incredible but there is only one issue that I have with the phone, the In-call volume on the ear speaker isn't that great as a matter of fact it's nothing compared to my old ear bleeder palm treo pro. don't get me wrong the back speaker on the phone is plenty loud, just not too happy with the ear one. probably going to exchange it hoping that it might be the phone I have. but it doesn't look good as I have already call HTC about the issue and they said that they have had other complaints about the same problem. and I also called sprint about it too, but neither of them have any good suggestions as of (options, settings, or even downloading apps). does anyone else have the same problem???

Interesting. I don't have much issue with the ear piece speaker. Yeah, I could stand to be a little louder, but it's ok. I find the rear speaker not nearly loud enough to use in a moving car.

I have not had any problems with the earpiece on the EVO 4G. My wife used to turn her bb curve so loud I could hear her conversation across the room. She has not complained about her EVO either, so I suspect that it is loud enough.

There is an option to increase in-call volume. Goto: Menu>Settings>Call>Hearing Aids

thanks Joel, but I have already tried that and It doesn't do anything. :(

Also, get some audio manager widget.
I use AudioManager Pro from the Market. It's free and there's also a paid version.

Anyway, you can adjust all your different volumes, like in-call, music, media, alarm, etc.
Maybe your incall volume is down and the others are high or something.

I used the Treo Pro (two different ones in fact) for a year and a half and I can tell you without any doubt, my Evo is louder on the earpiece, speakerphone and media playback than my Treo Pro ever was.

Perhaps you have some hardware problems with yours.

Unless you are listening to the phone while wearing hearing aids, changing hearing aid settings should have no effect on call volume. This setting links the phone with a feature in the hearing aid called a telecoil, which helps people with certain types of hearing loss hear better on the phone. It filters the incoming signal and applies a boost to the hearing aid output around 1500 Hz. If a person is not wearing a hearing aid, they will not perceive any change at all (because the hearing aid is what is changing the signal). For the person with normal hearing, the only result will be an additional drain on battery because of the increased electromagnetic field being produced by the phone. (The telecoil detects this field to activate the different processing).

So, not perceiving a change is much more likely a symptom of not wearing hearing aids, than of a defective phone. As for the original issue, I too find the in-call volume to be low. My old blackberry would blow me out of the water. This phone is sometimes hard to hear in background nose and I have completely normal hearing.

I just downloaded that app and the volume's on that app were already up, and it didn't work:( I think i'm going to have to exchange for a different unit.

At least someone agrees with me:) thanks for that info.

While I don't find the volume level to be a problem it IS quieter than Blackberry phones that I have had and the HTC Hero that I had before this one. The suggestions made in this thread make absolutely no difference at all.

You need to be rooted but ... heres a developer who makes kernels, and he also makes special kernels for the hard of hearing. He includes geniusdog254's audio boost patch which should work for you.

I'm pointing you in the right direction. Please don't ask me how to root, which ROM's to flash, or which kernel to flash. Thats up to you to learn.
:D

No you dont need your hearing checked. No the hearing aide option does not change the volume level, it changes the frequency for hearing aides. Yes headset/earpiece volume is extremely low on the EVO. it does everything well except inbound earpiece call volume! I can barley hear in the car with the windows up and ac fan blowing. There needs to be a sofware mod or app to fix this or i will have to get a headset amp. I have tried different headsets and earbuds. Ridiculous.

I have read posts re this and don't see a solution except developing into a debate on whether or not its low. The headset volume is extremely low on this phone. Were talking like turn down ac fan in car to hear low. I just got the phone and it does every thing great except calls! The hearing aide app does not increase volume. Yes I tried different headsets and earbuds. They have got to come out with a software fix or I am going to have to get a amp for my headset! Ridiculous!
