In the settings for Samsung messaging app, what does "select default messaging type" mean and do?

Also, what setting does everyone use?

Where are you seeing that?

Re: In the settings for Samsung messaging app, what does "select default messaging type" mean and do

Tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner, Settings/Chat settings

I don't have that on my unlocked S9+. Maybe carrier related. Sorry, can't help.

Interesting. I don't even find anything on Google. It gives 3 options when you tap "select default messaging type", automatic, text/multimedia msgs, and chat messages.

What carrier r u on? Seems to be RCS related

If you don't have a 2nd app for messages, then you won't see option to change, such as yse Google Android Messages or Textra.

Settings : Apps : 3 dots : "Default Apps" to choose one.

Browser should have Chrome and Samsung Internet (and beta is s good one to dl and install).

I'm with Sprint.

Default messaging type probably refers to SMS or MMS - although it might be something coming in RCS and the choice is already there but it doesn't do anything yet.

I have the Facebook message app too. I have the Samsung messaging app set as default.

Re: In the settings for Samsung messaging app, what does "select default messaging type" mean and do

It's RCS. Sprint has it running on their network. If u and the other person have Sprint, select Chat and it'll communicate thru RCS (Chat). If u and the other person r on different networks, it'll communicate thru sms/mms.

I'd leave it on automatic. One time I was texting a friend thru Chat (we both have Sprint), and I hadn't heard from them in a while. I checked the messaging app and it said failed to send due to no data connection. I pressed resend and it went thru. Later I went thru the settings and selected an option that read if Chat doesn't send, use sms/mms automatically. So the next time if a Chat txt doesn't go thru cuz of no data connection, it'll automatically send it using sms/mms network connection

Should it be put on automatic? It shows "chat" right now.
Which is best?
