INC as a hotspot?

The reported wifi USB hotspot will that be like how evo dose it?

The ability to do Wifi hotspot and USB tethering is coming in 2.2. The unknown factor is if Verizon will allow it as they charge like $30 to tether your phone currently.

The exception to this is the Palm Pre Plus (which I currently own - Incredible arriving tomorrow!), which allows you to turn your phone into a mobile hotspot for up to 5 devices for free. Verizon may have only allowed this to boost sales, but it is no longer unprecedented.

It wasn't orignally free. They made it free, and cut the cost of the phone, so they could actually move the phones out the door...

Yup. It was intended to get rid of units due to lack of sales. At this point, no one knows how VZW will handle the hotspot/tethering issues with 2.2. If I had to guess, I'd say you will be charged the more expensive plan (the $45 one) if you want to use it

pdanet doesn't turn phone into a mobile hotspot, which is what the OP was referring to I think...

I have pdanet...very nice

Pdanet only gives you access to the network over the phone. If he wants a true AP he is talking about the phone being able to allow multiple wireless devices to connect through it to the internet. I couldn't imagine a wealth of people needing multiple devices hooked into the phone though?!

There is one app that I run on my iTouch that does not have a droid counterpart that I love when I travel. Would love to have my Inc act as a hotspot for it when I need it.

True, but it would be nice to use for just a personal laptop. Save some time and trouble using cables. One less thing to deal with.

What's the difference between a Hot Spot and Mobile Broadband Connect.

I know little about WiFi and networks and broadband. Would that feature let me connect my laptop to the net (mobile broadband)

Mobile broadband connect allows you to use your phone tethered with a usb cable or via bluetooth to your computer to access the internet via your phones 3G connection.

Hotspot allows up to five other devices to connect to your 3G connection via wifi....essentially turning your phone into a wireless router.

Mobile Broadband Connect can be used on a phone that does not have wifi. Hotspot must have wifi.

I am hopeful

I beleave it was during the last Podcast that they were talking about this feature. They were saying that it depends on how the data is transfered as to whether or not Verizon can stop or even know if you are using this feature. I hope it is done in the manner that will allow us to use this without having to pay the extra money. But of course it sounds like there are some pretty good work arounds already. However, I am still waiting for my phone, much less 2.2 so at this point I am just a spectator. :(

Ah hah, Pdanet now supports bluetooth tethering ;)

I have used BT Tethering through PDAnet and it is not worth it. It is a much slower connection that is a pain to setup. I will wait for Root or a native option.

Lol ok? I just start pdanet select bluetooth, setup a "dial up connection using BT modem" on the computer you only do this once then it's always there and bam done. No software to install, it just works. Doesn't get much easier....

And slower I was getting full 3G speeds?! Not understanding how to use something is hardly enough to say it's not worth it.
