My wife has a Galaxy A51 5G on Android 11 which is her first Android phone.

She reports that incoming calls automatically go to voice mail with no ring if she is texting at the time.

Is that normal or something controlled by some setting?

Hmm, that is odd. Usually, calls override whichever app one is currently using and will "ring", anyway.

Just a thought: does this happen in Safe Mode? Try her Call Settings and ensure that everything seems to be set properly. I just rooted through my own Call Settings on my S10 and all that really mentions app use is this section:

Thanks.

That's what her settings show. Maybe time for me to see it not ring for myself in case I notice any clues.

Also, double check to make sure Do Not Disturb is off.

Thanks all!

We can't duplicate when I call while she is texting. Might never know why it happened to her before. I'm not impressed with T-Mobile calling myself. I sometimes get calls when my phone (S20 5G FE) is off or in Airplane mode and some of those show up in Visual Voicemail and some don't. Kind of defeats the main point of visual voicemail if you have to call the voicemail service just to see if you have recordings that didn't go to visual voicemail.

I've seen that happen with visual voicemail and not sure why it happens, but for your wife issue if she can pay attention next time if it was a certain person was calling her or any other clues that could help.

Not a spam call by chance? I know my Pixel will kick known spam calls right to voicemail, just an idea ...
