On the "notification pop-up screen" page, i have it set to show gmails & texts. I also have it set to show even while screen is off. That's the problem. It DOESN'T show when the screen is off!!! I've tried just about everything to correct this except turning on the AOD, or doing a factory reset. Can someone please point me in the right direction to solve this problem. Thank you.

On that settings section, if you go to 'Apps that show as brief', do the Messaging app and Gmail have the toggle active? Do you see any other notifications with the screen off, or are only these two apps missing? Have you tried changing Edge Lighting styles to see if that 'resets' it?

I've tried everything except changing the phone. That will happen in Sept. or Oct. No more "flagships" for me. I'm not going to pay top dollar for a headache!

Glimpse Notification is the app I use to briefly wake up the screen momentarily to show the Lock Screen with new notifications. Even when the AOD is running, which is all the time.

Been using it for years now and still works great.

I've researched this a bit and it seems to be something that's plagued Samsung devices for a while. Apparently it has something to do with how Samsung implements the doze feature built-in to Android. I guess they are trying to eek out as much battery life as possible, but sadly it appears this comes at the expense of timely notifications. I've seen people recommend going into each app's settings and turning off battery optimization (which sometimes works but sometimes doesn't) and I have seen some folks say using ADB to disable doze altogether works.

I have this issue too but it's only for some apps ... Some apps I get real time notifications for. Which makes me wonder if this is on the app developers or Samsung (or a combination of the two) ...

@Danny0311 , correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the OP is talking about a situation like this... the phone is sitting next to you on a table, night stand, whatever. The screen is off because it's timed out - it's been sitting there untouched for a while. A notification comes in, but all you hear is maybe the sound. The screen does not turn on to show you the notification. You have to turn the screen on - either with the double-tap, press the lock/power button, or whatever wave gesture or pick-up motion you may have set the phone to respond to.

Unlike the iPhone and the old BlackBerry phones that would turn on the screen to the lock screen for several seconds so you can see from where you got the notification. Either showing the message with it if set to do that, or just that it was a message from an email, text, news app, or a bank transaction. Then, after a set time period, the screen would go dark again.

All the AOD does is keep the time and date showing and a line of icons if you had notifications waiting. By default, Samsung phones did not wake up the lock screen when new notifications came in. But the AOD will add the icon for it when it comes in.

This issue has nothing to do with how quick you get notifications. Generally emails and texts are instant anyway. Bank notifications tend to depend on how quick their system responds. My own bank sometimes notifies me immediately of a transaction. Sometimes a McDonald's card swipe pops up on my phone that instant, while other times it'll take a few hours before I see it.

I'm pretty sure that's the issue. It's something I noticed when I switched from the old BlackBerry Z10 to the S8 back in 2017. That's when I found the Glimpse Notifications app. It was free (still is), did what I wanted, and still use it today on my S20 FE.

I thought there was some setting Samsung added to do the same thing in the One UI 5 update, but maybe this particular feature wasn't really it. I can't seem to find anything in it now to do this without the app.

The problem is exactly as you described. If I download glimpse, what are the settings that I should use? Thanks for the help.

I'm using the exact same settings. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't. I'm almost able to use the T-mo jump plan. Another month or two and i'm dumping Samsung for the Pixel 7 or 8 if it's available. I'm done with this phone. Thanks guys for trying to help.

One more thing. When someone answers my questions, the answer doesn't go to my phone, only to my laptop. Am i missing a setting? Thanks.

In settings>advanced features do you have link to window service, pairing your device with computer? Also check calls and texts on other device
