Incompatible Apps?!

Why are their so many apps at GooglePlay that say, "This app is incompatible with your Asus Nexus 7?" I realize some are for phones, but not all.

Thank you.

This is irritating for me as well. I have two devices and you can't delete the old one (only hide it)

Most of the time it's not incompatibility with the Nexus 7 - it's that the app hasn't been updated to play nicely with Jelly Bean.

Usually the app has a requirement that the Nexus 7 can't fulfill, most commonly a rear camera or non optimized screen resolution/DPI. I've found that such apps work and look just fine on my N7. This includes CNN, USA Today, American Express, and Discover Card.

To download, use a reputable, alternative app store. I use 1Mobile Market . Go to www.1mobile.com to download and install their app store app (ironically, the app is available on the Google Play Store, but it's marked as not compatible with the N7!). They only have free apps, including those that are listed as incompatible with the N7 on Google Play.

I am looking forward to the day that all apps are fully compatible with the Nexus 7.

It's interesting that when I visit Google Play on my tablet, I can't download these "incompatible" apps. But I can if I visit the store via my computer.

Thanks for the good information.

That's interesting because that's not my experience.

On the computer, there is indeed an install button available, even for incompatible apps. Underneath that, however, is the incompatibility message, though the message doesn't really stand out.

If I click the install button, a window pops up which allows me to select which device I want to download to. Since the only Android device I own is the Nexus 7, that's my only choice and it's grayed out if the app is incompatible. I just verified this again with the CNN app. If I had an additional device that was compatible, then my guess is I'd be able to select the app for that device only.

It bugs me to no end when I see this... Especially for some ghetto-basic app that can run on a 4 y/o phone, seriously! It says it supports 4.1 Jellybean yet still says "incompatible". Seriously pisses me off...

Google really needs to "push" devs to update their **** or at least make a Tablet Only section so us poor bastards can browse and install apps without getting kicked in the nuts with constant "incompatible".

What you see is in some cases is the CPU issues. The N7 has a quad-core Tegra 3. My favorite N7 game Auralux only runs on a Tegra 3. A lot of phones use different processors. Maybe the next OS Key Lime Pie will will solve some of these issues.

2/3/13. Disgusted with machine..spent so much time downloading reading apps only to find that. ......now I have 3 incompatible reading apps...downloaded by. This machine...and. I can,t do a thing about it...now what....reset machine.
Return to store

Just uninstall the incompatible apps. I'm assuming you installed them directly rather than through the Google Play Store, since the latter wouldn't have let you install incompatible apps in the first place. To uninstall, go to Settings/Apps, scroll until you find your incompatible reading apps, tap it, and select uninstall. There's no need to reset.

There are so many major e-reader apps available for the N7 (e.g., Kindle, Nook, Kobo) that you should be able to find one that works for you. The only problem I can think of would be if you live in a country other than the US--not sure what the compatibility is in other countries.

Add Bluestacks Android emulator on your desktop and problem resolved - it is compatible with most apps apparently - probably by design since it was meant to be used by devs as a testbed...
