I have seen a few questions reguarding the difference between Recovery and Titanium Backup and like apps. This is a basic scenario to show you the difference between the two.

[INFO]WHAT RECOVERY DOES:

Backs up EVERYTHING! Including the operating system, etc, unless you choose not to back up everything.

This is done in RECOVERY mode
[/INFO]
[INFO]WHAT TITANIUM BACKUP DOES:

Backs up SPECIFIC chosen apps and data.. games, system apps, text messages, etc...

This is done WITH Titanium from inside the OS, not in Recovery.
[/INFO]

[NOTE]Here is an example for you...
(If your not a super geek like me and still use the data partition from recovery to achieve this)

"Hey, I wanna try that new ROM. Looks cool. Ok let me backup all my games and data for it so I can play it from where I am on my new ROM I wanna try..."

Start up Titanium, choose to backup Game and Data...

"Ok, now I can install that new ROM from RECOVERY."

Boot into recovery... Install ROM, Boot into new ROM

"Hey, wow... this ROM is cool.. only wish I still had my saved games and stuff... OH WAIT! TITANIUM BACKUP!"

Download Titanuim and RESTORE your game and data...

TADA!

Data restored.. you didnt have to start over.

*** I used a game as the example cause its easiest to imagine ***

Hope this helps out![/NOTE]

Great write-up. This should also be shared in another forum (General How-to?) to get more exposure.

great post, it really helped clear things up for me.

now my question is what would I need to do to get rid of CWM which I have now and put TWRP on my phone?

Can i just follow the instructions on putting TWRP in my phone or do i need to first remove CWM? and if so how do i remove it?

thanks again

Read my post for recovery.. its also linked in my signature. I added a method #2 for hboot flash. You dont need to remove the other first. This will change it to TWRP

Can anyone help me with twrp?

I changed the nandroid settings to data only, what are the other Defaults in backup?
