Here's my experience so far. Looks like I finally found someone at Motorola who could tell me what's going on.

My device was received by Motorola on the 4th and the RMA was completed on the same day. The web site said that it either had shipped or was shipping soon but no ship date or tracking number. I called Motorola twice last week and was told that they're within the promised window and I should just wait patiently. This morning (10.10.2011) I saw the status had changed to "Shipped" and it supposedly shipped on October 5th. I also received an email overnight from Motorola telling me the device had shipped and a second email telling me that they needed extra time to work on my device. I also received an email from Motorola thanking me for upgrading the Xoom and requesting that I participate in a survey to tell them how the process went.

I called Motorola again today and after being bounced around a bit, I was told that, over the weekend, Motorola had discovered "some more work that needed to be done" on some of the repaired Xooms. I should expect a ship date somewhere between the 10th (today) and the 14th.

I've checked their web site about a gazillion times over the past week and I thought I had noticed that the SIM number had changed overnight. That seems to fit with the information I received today. My guess is that they had a quality control issue and had to re-do some of the work.

I asked how I was going to be able to track the process since the RMA web site indicates the upgrade is complete and the device has already been shipped. The response was that I would receive an email from Motorola with a status update. I tried to point out that every email I've received from Motorola up to this point has been incorrect but she didn't seem to grasp why I have low confidence in further email updates.

So, if your Xoom is in limbo, perhaps it's one of the devices that had to get a little extra love from Motorola. The bad news is that it looks like it's going to take at least several extra days before you see it again.

Thanks for the info and your report. Hope to get mine back soon... didn't realize how integrated this device has become for me into my daily routines. Not having it just makes me realize more so how sweet the Xoom truly is.

I just checked and I have an actual FedEx tracking number! Supposed to be picked up from Motorola on Tuesday and in my hands by Wednesday. So, it looks like they're starting to work through whatever issues they've been having.

I agree with you, I didn't realize how much I used my Xoom until I kept reaching for it and it wasn't there.
