First N7 from Staples (that I was planning keeping to reject delivery for a late Play order) was defective beyond belief. It had the spongy screen problem (had it pre-screw fix discovery) and significant ghosting.

My Play order finally came today, and the screen isn't spongy, but instead is about 1 mm above the bezel, firmly in place. Taking off the back reveals the screws are also firmly tightened. As a result, when gripping the device by the side bezel/putting pressure on it, the display distorts/ripples pretty easily. I'm really frustrated beyond belief with this product right now.

I've heard so many complaints about the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7.... I've had perfect products on both..... so odd

Not really. Generally speaking in the marketing world, negative experiences are about 10:1 more likely to be shared. You just don't hear from as many happy customers. Simple fact of doing business.

However, I am in no way discounting people's problems with this device. There are certainly issues like the OP mentioned. There are also a lot of good devices out there too.

Yeah, this is completely valid.

Sorry to hear about your experience but anything you buy in life sometimes can be faulty but this should not reflect the product itself. But I feel your pain I can't imagine having to wait for my nexus and then it turning out to be faulty.

ManBearPig,

My screen was also slightly raised on the left. Pulled the cover, screws were tight. Put cover back on and screen was perfect. I did snap it back on left side first, not sure that it would matter.
