Hi All,

So far I am absolutely loving my N5. This is my first Nexus device but I've owned quite a few android devices in the past (Galaxy S3,S4, Note 3, LG G2, HTC One). Below are some screen shots from my first day with the Nexus 5. I received the phone yesterday around 1pm EST, let the battery run down to 10% then let it charge fully to 100%. I am still technically on the first charge from the phone. I know there are a few other battery posts but I have really optimized my N5 I think to work very well for my needs and provide decent battery for a 2300 MaH battery. During this day's period I have used the phone to make 3 phone calls (approx 2-3 mins each), watched several Youtube videos, spent ALOT of time on the AC app, mixed chrome usage, played with camera, used hangouts ALOT, etc. Hopefully the below gives some hope to current/future N5 owners concerned with battery. I've also thrown in some Speedtest.net shots of my current LTE/Wifi data speeds. I am coming from an Iphone 5s with ATT LTE plan and I just swapped sims into the N5 and did not change/tweak any settings.

Current Phone Configuration:

1) I do NOT use Google Now
2) I have disabled multiple apps that I really don't need/use:
-Cloud print
-Email
-Exchange Services
-Google Hindi Input
-Google Korean Keyboard
-Google Play Books
-Google Play Games
-Google Play Magazines
-Google+ (this is a biggie, since I feel like it's ALWAYS running for some reason). I don't dislike Google+ I just don't really use much social media.
-Google Play Music
-Google Play Movies
-iWnn IME (both keyboards)
-News and Weather

3) Wifi - On
4) Bluetooth - Off
5) Location - On
6) Google Account Sync - App data, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, Gmail, Keep, Wallet
7) Display Brightness - 1/4 of slider

All that is great for ideal battery use as you've shown, but I don't want to cripple my phone by taking away on-demand services. Also being on wifi all day is nice for some, unrealistic for most.

I completely agree with your statement. For me, I'm not really 'crippling' anything as I really just don't use the services I have disabled. I understand that most people love and use Google Now quite frequently, I'm just not 1 of those people. Also, I work in an office with decent cell signal and Wifi so yes I do use wifi all day at work. I'm really only on LTE while driving to a from places without Wifi and to be honest when I am soley using cellular data, I often get better battery usage.

When you diasble apps what happens? Like, does that just mean that they will not manually sync? And when you open them, does that enable them again?

The battery isn't great on this phone no matter what. I'm used to it because the batter on the HTC One wasn't great either. Its been 7.5 hours since I last charged my phone and I'm at %15 battery. I've been at work and used it on my hour break (played candy crush, got on Facebook and twitter, and listened to music) all on WiFi. Went down from 65 percent to 15 percent in an hour. Screen brightness is on auto.

The battery is not great.

I have my Nexus since Monday and battery is horrible compare to others. Here is the status of my phone today. I used chrome, checked emails, used Bluetooth for about 30 mins to listening to my music and Sms. I dont think I was doing alot but for some reason my battery is not that great. Just wondering I am also on AT&T and the signal at work is bad. I am only able to get 1-2 bars at my desk. Some spots around the building it will show zero bars. Could this be the reason why, phone is always trying to look for signal? Same thing at home where i could barely get 1 or 2 bars. If its not I think I may do a RMA or just return it and pick up Moto X.

1 Wifi - On
2 Location - Off
3. No Sync on Yahoo email.
3 Google Account Sync - App data, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, Gmail, Keep, Wallet
4 Display Brightness - Auto
5. Google Now - Enable

Your battery is at %37 after 17 hours. That is really good IMO. Mine is at 14 percent after only 8 hours.

I would point to that as exactly why your battery is going so fast. Every cell phone I have owned will drain battery crazy fast when I am not getting a good signal. For example, I have family that live in some small towns and neither AT&T or Verizon have good coverage. When I go to those towns, my Galaxy Nexus on AT&T and my wife's iPhone 5 on Verizon will have their batteries drain at a much higher rate.

Thanks thats what i was thinking too. Well, maybe switching over to tmobile will help, there is no point in me dropping 60 bucks a month for LTE when I barely get any signals let alone LTE. Another reason why being on prepaid is awesome, freedom to just carriers.

IMO, the OP bought the wrong phone for their needs. Why by a pure Google experience phone only to disable the main features this phone is good at. Certainly not for the large battery or awesome camera. Just a bit confused, but hey, to each their own right? You obviously don't keep your phones long, so until the next one comes out...enjoy!

The battery on the Nexus 5 is just like most Android phones I've had, not very good if you play with your phone a lot. I can get through the day with normal use, usually 12 hours. Today I managed about 12 1/2 hours with 3 hours of screen time. That's pretty decent for me. I've notice that the idle time was really good but, once you have that screen on, it starts draining. I also have a powerpack that I carry with me if I know I'll be away from home for a while.

Edit: I don't disable anything.
