Inspire not working correctly

I'm returning my Inspire today because after a few hours, the screen won't change between landscape & portrait mode. With a power off & back on it works fine for several hours. Changing the settings in Display does nothing once this starts happening.

Oh well, I really liked the phone otherwise. I may exchange it for another.

i did notice there is an option to lock the rotation. maybe you accidentally activated it? if not the accelorometer could just be bad. No manufacturer has launched 100% flawless phones. theres bound to be a bad batch somewhere :( sorry to hear that. But dont let it change your mind about the phone overall cuz it's still a kick-ass phone.

and just to be sure you know it doesn't do landscape on the homescreen unless you've installed launcher pro or another home screen program right? You're talking about internet? if it doesn't do it on the internet its either that setting of rotation or accelorometer

mine does the same but if i switch to the htc launcher and back to launcher pro it solves the problem.

Shemp: I don't know if you've already boxed it up for return or not, but if not, would you mind downloading a widget in the market called Auto Rotate Widget and let me know if toggling that is as effective as a power cycle? I'm not saying this is a solution, but I'm curious what the status of this widget looks like when this happens to you, and what happens when you toggle it.

To late. I've already exchanged it for another Inspire.

this problem doesn't look isolated. It happened to me twice last night. Both times rebooting fixed the problem. So far today it hasn't happened but I'm keeping my eye on it

UGH i hope this is a simple fix. everytime i buy android i end up with the phone with a big. I had the cRaptivate and returned it due to gps issue

GPS issue is a little more major than a L/P switch.

@ OP: does your new Inspire have the same issue?

I think everybody had gps issues w/ the captivate. That was one of my reasons for returning it and no service at my house. Any and all samsungs get terriable service at my house. Weird.

The new one froze for a second or two today while I was messing around on it - don't remember what I was doing & not long after that it did stop rotating. I powered down & back up & it hasn't done it since.

@Cory Streater

I started reading this post and thought i'm immune ... lol - 5 min later I notice my app does not rotate...

Long story short - I installed your widget and it does not help solve the issue... will reboot now.

While annoying, this is not as detrimental as GPS not working - my gps works pretty good :)

Update - widget and rotation works after reboot.

Had no problems yesterday but I also switched back to the stock launcher. And was showing off the fast boot all night so that may have caused it to not happen since the shine was off and on a lot

Edit: Spoke too soon just happend. surely its just a software bug
