install 2.1 on a hero that has 1.5

So I have a Hero that has the stock 1.5. How can I upgrade to 2.1 over the air? or is that not available? I am trying to not root it just because it is complicated for me and this is for my wife's phone. I saw the article on androidcentral.com about the new version that came out but it doesn't work when i try to upgrade.

You can't install it OTA for the Sprint Hero (correct?). You have to get it from Sprint Stores or download a copy onto a Windows PC. Go Here to get it.

Having said that... I would highly recommend rooting it, but since that isn't an option... Installing the RUU will not allow you to go back. It may already have been patched as well where the unrEVOked method won't work to root.

You don't have to root. Go to your local Sprint store and have them do it, or follow the instructions here to do it yourself:

My store was not ready to do it, so I'm doing it myself later this week.
