Install apps directly to sd card

I have android 5.1.1. Without rooting, is there anyway to install apps directly to micro SD card? If not, can I do it if I root my device?

Welcome to Android Central! No, you can't install apps directly to the SD. Some phones allow you to move a portion of the app to the SD, but a good amount of the app needs to stay on Internal Storage (and the app has to download and install initially to Internal Storage).

I believe App Mgr III or Link2SD allows you to move an app to the SD on a rooted device.
