Installing .apk files on Android Phones

Ok I have the swipe beta release and now I have to install it to play with it on my Pulse.

So I copy it over to the root directory of my SD card, and enable my phone to install software from outside of the market in settings. What do I do after that?

A nice step by step would be nice, thanks...
