Installing ROM on Motoroi X

Hi
I have a Droid X -Mexican Version (pretty much the same but the branding)- known as the Motoroi X. It is for the mexican carrier IUSACELL

I am collecting information to perform a custom ROM installment. However i just bumped into a very small piece of advise on another forum saying that i should not install any rom found because the radio on the ROMs, typically VZW will not match mine and will brick it

Is this correct? Does this mean I am stuck until IUSACELL decides to release an update to the Droid X?
