insurance that covers swimming?

Is there any insurance (i.e. squaretrade) that will cover me for if my phone is damaged while swimming with it?

Sony warranty doesn't cover that correct?

SquareTrade covers damage from liquids, so this presumably includes swimming. Call them up and ask if you want to know for sure: Cell Phone Insurance - Cell Phone Warranty - Cellphone Insurance

Here's the section of the Sony protection that deals with this:

2.2. Accidental Damage
You may also purchase optional coverage for failures due to accidental damage from
handling (“ADH”), such as drops or spills that arise from normal handling and use of the
Product. ADH coverage only applies to operational or mechanical failure caused by an
accident from handling that is the result of an unexpected or unintentional external event
that arises from your normal daily usage. If the Product is replaced all obligations owed
under this Contract will have been satisfied.
ADH coverage does not protect you in the cases of (a) theft, loss, misplacement, war,
terrorism, fire, abuse, a willful or intentional act, (b) alteration or modification of the
Product in any way, (c) damage caused by failure to perform manufacturer’s recommended
operating instructions/standards or recommended maintenance, (d) cosmetic damage (e.g.,
scratches or dents) that does not prevent the proper functionality or use of the Product.

What is covered appears to be a bit grey, but I might interpret that to mean that they intend that the coverage is somewhat broad and limits only those things that are specifically excluded. You could ask them if they intend to include water damage.

That said, the coverage with Square Trade doesn't appear to be materially different in terms of causes of loss. I couldn't find a copy of the actual contract on their site though, so I can't compare the contract verbage directly. I do see that there is a deductible with Square Trade where none is apparent with Sony. Sony is also $20 cheaper for 2 years. There are some parts of Sony's contract that seems to indicate that if they replace the phone under certain conditions (unrepairable or same part failure three times), the obligations of the contract are satisfied. I read that to mean, the coverage does not extend to the replacement.

An interesting note is that I didn't find anything in the language that excludes water damage from the warranty side of the protection plan. One may be able to argue that given the Z3's waterproof design, a failure due to water may be considered a warranty claim rather than an accidental damage by handling claim.

Thanks. I don't think I can get a Sony warranty anymore cause I'm now leaning toward buying a z2 instead and I'm in the united states. Square trade didn't respond to my email but they did answer my phone call.

According to thesquaretrade person on the phone, swimming damage is covered if you buy the plan that includes coverage for accidental damage. I think I'll email sony too but I should be able to get coverage through squaretrade if I can't get it through Sony.

Sony appears to be selling the Z2 on their website. Its backordered, but it states only until 10-8-14. Am I missing something?

I have asurion insurance through verizon and just got my galaxy S5 replaced due to swimming with it in my pocket. Asurion was very easy to deal with.
