Anyone know why my verizon s6 edge inexplicably and intermittently returns to a lock screen during browser sessions forcing me to sign back in.

It's doing that without the screen blanking out first? In other words, it just transitions from browser directly to lockscreen? Are you using Chrome, or does the phone still have the stock Samsung Internet browser?

If it only happens with Chrome go to settings - apps and clear data and cache for chrome. Force stop and reboot the phone. Have you activated any chrome/flags?

If it happens with others apps as well maybe there's a conflict with one that you downloaded that can lock the screen by itself.

Thanks for the reply. The screen transitions to the lock screen from various applications including Facebook. I did try your first suggestion and it hasn't helped. This doesn't happen immediately but only after using the application for several minutes. If in fact there is a conflict with another application how do i find the one that is causing the problem without resetting the phone and starting all over? I have only downloaded apps from the google play store which i assume ( maybe a bad assumption) have been tested prior to putting them up for download. Thanks again for the help

Unfortunately, the only way to figure out if an app is causing this instability is to uninstall apps one by one and see if/when the behavior goes away. Apps on Google Play can still be buggy--that's why the devs update them. But even if the app works normally during all of their testing, it could still have a conflict with some other app (that the devs never tested it with), which could then lead to problems.

I don't have an S6 so maybe I'm missing something very specific to this phone. It sounds like a funny bug though. Any screen timeout or force lock should put the phone to sleep first (screen off) and not sending you directly to the lock screen.

You could try these things.

- In settings - lock screen change the automatically lock option and set it to 1 or 2 minutes. Maybe it's just as simple as that. Check all your lock settings and switch off any smart lock options to see if it makes a difference

- For an app to lock the phone it needs an special permission. In settings - security check what's included under device administrator.

- As B. Diddy said, booting your phone into safe mode is the best way to know if there's a problem with the system or with an app that you downloaded.

If you are using a case take it off. The case may be putting pressure on the Power button and causing it to lock.

That's a good idea. If it has a smartcover as well, it's possible that the magnet in the cover is too strong and briefly causing the screen to sleep, then wake--which could result in the lockscreen appearing.

Thanks for all the help!!!! I disabled several apps that also freed up a significant amount of ram which seems to have stabilized my phone. Not sure if one of the apps was causing the problem or the ram (or lack thereof) but anyway things are working now.
