Hi all,

Why would my Data folder item jump form 22 items to 96 items overnight?

Thanks

The /Android/Data directory is where your apps store data. It might be some data backups that certain apps are creating, or some files they're caching, or other files created in the normal course of action.

What items are you noticing-- new folders, or just new files?

Hi B. Diddy,

Noticing new folders in the "Data" folder. My Files>Internal Storage >Android>Data.

Also....I use an SD card and have my photos that I take directed to the SD card but why are these same folders mentioned above also storing on my SD card? I only want my photos to store on my SD card and nothing else. Seems very redundant to see folders and files stored on my SD card and internally on the device itself.

What are the names of some of these folders? Are they long strings of seemingly random characters? Those could be temporary cache folders for certain apps.

Here is the screenshot of my data folder. Hope it uploads and is legible

Here is basically what is inside of each of the folders .....So my question is essentially, why did these all just suddenly show up and jump from 22 to 96 folders? And why are they also on my SD card too?

Thanks

They all seem to be related to system or preinstalled apps, so at least we don't have to be worried about malware. Unfortunately, I don't have a Note8, so I can't compare directly. On my Pixel 2 XL, I have 72 folders, many of which start with "com.", and are related either to apps I installed or preexisting Google apps.

Did all of those folders get created after you had owned the phone for a while? Or did you just recently get the phone?

Also, you didn't do any hacks to enable Adoptable Storage, right?

Yes, they all got created after I had the Note 8 for a while. No I haven't done any hacks whatsoever. Its a Deep Sea Blue Note 8 I bought brand new at Best Buy in Charlotte NC. Its an unlocked US version I'm using on AT&T.

At this point, I wouldn't worry about them. It sounds like they're not taking up much space anyway. We'll see if anyone else here with a Note8 also sees those folders.

And thank you for the holiday wishes! Hope yours is peaceful and restful as well.:)
