Hello all. I'm usually pretty tech savvy, but I just inherited a TB & this is the first smart phone I've ever owned/used & I'm still trying to learn my way around it.

I'm concerned w/data usage and I'm having trouble knowing when I've correctly stopped an app. For example, I thought I closed Facebook, but when I check in the background, I see it's been running forever. If I stop it, it just seems to start up again.

I've been doing a lot of reading here and learned apps running in the background isn't necessarily bad and I don't need to be obsessively checking and closing things from the apps menu. But when I am not actively using FB (or other internet apps) and it's still open in the background, is it still transferring and eating into my data?

Please forgive such a silly question, you can laugh if you want. I'm sure I'll have plenty more :p

The only way an app that is running in the background is going to use up data is if its set to update new info.. example Facebook, if you have it polling for new notifications and/or messages. Apps like these will have an option in the menu called an update interval which allows you to set how often you would like it to check... example every 5,15,30,60 minutes, manual, auto, never. Most common would be social apps or weather apps.

Wonderful, thank you Cyber W. I have everything set for infrequent updating so I should be all good. Now I can quit having nightmares about data overages
