I'm using the HTC One from Verizon. Over the last two days, I've noticed internet, streaming music, Facebook, maps, and pretty much any service that requires data is running incredibly slow. And this is on both Wifi and over 4G.

My latest Speedtest.net results are:

Wifi
Ping:170ms
Download: .50Mbps
Upload: 3.52Mbps

4G
Ping: 100ms
Download: 2.93 Mbps
Upload: 2.32 Mbps

I'm located in central Phoenix at the moment, and coverage has always been pretty good. Does this sound like it might be a hardware (phone) issue?

Check for software updates that may fix this problem. You can do this by menu > system settings > about phone

Can you check if any other wireless devices connected to your home wifi are also slow? Or is the data speed on your computers slow?

I would suggest rebooting the router--unplug the power, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, and wait another 20-30 seconds for the connection to reestablish. Then see how the speed is.

Is your wifi linked to your 4G, i.e., do you have home internet via Verizon as well? If so, it may be an overall Verizon network problem. Have you called Verizon to see if there's a problem?

I don't know why the wifi speeds were so terrible. Was at the office where I've never had problems with it before.

Once I got home and tried everything there I saw a big improvement. Wifi speeds were great.

And, once I started checking 4g speeds later that hight, they increased dramatically as well. I'm assuming the low results from earlier were from heavy network usage.

500kbps isn't heavy network usage, it's a network that's almost dead. Even the slowest internet connection these days is about 3mbps. The first thing I would have done when it was that slow on wifi (there are many things that can cause 3G/4G to slow down) was to turn the phone off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. And do a speed test with a computer that was connected to the same router.

If connection problem fixed by change of location or network it means you could be in pretty radio restrictive room or it might be network problem it self. Other possibility is that phone it self did some unannounced network activity.
