Hi there

Hi there

I came up with an idea for a card game last Easter, kicked it around a bit, did some maths, realised it would be better as a phone app.

Over the summer I taught myself some Java for Android. Mostly picked up from the Internet using developer forums - what a fantastic resource!. Gradually I cobbled together an app for Android - a lot of trial and error, a few expletives, a few 'I can't do this' occasions - but at the end of October I had something that kind of worked.

I launched go6 General Knowledge Quiz on Android Market on 31/10/2011, and then the real work began.

Boy, what a tough market! I had no business, marketing, developing experience whatsoever - just a belief that I had a brand new game concept and that it was good!

I gradually introduced new titles - ideas have never been a problem fortunately - re-worked the original code, added features and tried every way I could think of to make people want these games.

By early January 2012 I finally felt I had a product worth promoting, and here we are.

Check out go6 game on Android Market and in Amazon Appstore and let me know what you think.

Well thank you Loey

I'm sure my current knowledge will be easily surpassed by existing members, but if anyone would like to chew over the difficulties of starting up in this business, I'm your man.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Welcome to the Forums!!!
I am a "rookie" developer looking to develop an idea i have for a game. I would love to hear about some of the materials you used to get started!!! I dont know too much about Java programming beside "hello world" so any help would be great!!

Hi Mr Turner

Thanks for your welcome and interest.

I am tempted to do a few posts about my experiences so far if they might be of benefit to others. If I do then I will post something here as well to redirect anyone.

Basically though the materials I used for the developing/Java side was Google. I knew what I wanted to do but not how to do it so I searched Google and went through the responses until I could find the info in a way I could understand it and apply it to my app.

You are already on one of the best sites for info though, and I would recommend you search through the forums here as a start. Most of the time the question had been asked before so I didn't have to post a query.

As I say though I will have a think and if I can put together some coherent posts I will expand on this.

Thanks again though for your interest.
