Hi there,
Just upgraded from my Galaxy S Captivate to the Galaxy Note and found my way here while doing some research on the possibility and pros and cons of root. I just installed Avast and the firewall and anti theft options are only available on a rooted phone. I'm fairly technically inclined and I pick things pretty quick but I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough in this to even consider it an option yet, I'm just learning :)
I used to know my way around DOS back in high school, PRE-preAOL, in the BBS days but that was longer ago that I'd care to admit :)

Anyone have any advice? Well, not advice, I'll make up my own mind...just info please? I don't want to with my phone, I'm very happy with it! I'd just like to know if these extra security features are worth the risk.

Thank you,
-Kate

Welcome to AC. Virus/firewall apps are a personal choice. Fortunately virus is not a very big issue on mobile devices like on our personal computers.

Again other security apps are your own choice. Some have been known not to play nice with other apps on your device and decrease battery life because they are running constantly.

Any other questions please do ask, we have an entire membership here of people willing to help make your android experience the best it can be.
