Hey guys i asked on Crackberry wether i should trade my iphone 3gs to a motorola droid and one person just said yes, now i wanted to ask you people who actually own a droid, is it worth the switch??

I mainly use my 3gs to text/call/watch movies/listen to music (alot), and surf the web at times

(i dont have a data plan because when im at shcool i have wifi and when im at home i have wifi so i dont really need it .. let me know what you guys thing

you won't be able to get a droid on verizon without the 29.99 data plan if you want to text and/or make calls.

If your thinking of switching to the milestone you might as well wait for the world edition of the droid 2. And in my opinion android has so much more to offer than the iphone so I say yes

PJ, what if you bought the phone outright without a plan and just used the swype from corner to corner method at the login to bypass it to the home screen. then he can just turn on wifi and sync up his account? i haven't tried it but i thought that was the way to use the droid without a plan. i know the phone plan is necessary but the data is only needed if you buy it for a subsidized price

yeah, you can by-pass activation but he wouldn't be able to call or text. Well he could text if he used google voice but still wouldn't be able to make calls. Verizon requires the 29.99 data plan if it's activate on a line regardless of whether or not it was bought outright or on a 2yr contract but since he's in Canada, I'm not sure what the policies there are. If he didn't need to make calls or had another phone to use for that, he could just get a regular Droid which would be more customizable than a milestone or Droid 2 WE with the locked bootloaders.
