Iphone ios 4 vs Adroid 2.2

The iphone 4 came out recently along with its new software(i os 4). Android has had 2.2(froyo) for quite some time now and a java script performance show the speed between the i os 4 and froyo.

Do you think the i os 4 is really no match for froyo
Comment on what you think.

No. While Android is improving by leaps and bounds, so is the iOS. You can certainly make a case about the closed nature of vs the open nature of Android, but IMO, the iOS is head and shoulders above it as far as polish, usability, and certainly developer mindshare. There are many, many things done right on iPhone and the flaws are slowly being addressed. Don't take that wrong, I'm not an Apple fanboy. My wife has a Droid and I'll be replacing my horrible Storm with an Android phone soon myself (X or Galaxy), but if anything, you could argue that Froyo is not a match for iOS.

I agree. I really like my Droid (and 2.2) but iOS is more polished. The OS is coded very well. Froyo is a big improvement but there's still room for improvement. For one, the FB app needs an overhaul.

Never used iOS4, but from my experience with playing with previous versions, the OS has historically been severely crippled (how long before you could copy/paste?). So really my own point is you CANNOT judge an OS based on any APP. Facebook has nothing to do with Android.

Everything has room for improvement, each OS has its pros and cons. For what I need/want, Android wins hands down because of its openness and flexibility.

iOS4 is really solid. I used it on my 3gs for a while before getting the Droid (soon to exchange for the X). It is really user friendly, however froyo gives so much more freedom. In my opinion the decision should be made based on the carrier. I was sick of at&t so verizon is a huge improvement.

@dwe28, my point isn't moot as my point was that you can't judge an OS based on its apps...

I believe the iOS is more user friendly, coded a little nicer, and just plain easy to use.
Android is usually more for advanced users.

I would definitely get my girlfriend an iPhone, just because she isn't as tech savvy as me, and the Android OS 'scares' her.

Me on the other hand choose Android, and even though I'll keep going with it, I still like the iOS.
I just don't like Steve's take on it and it's outdated features :P

You can, actually, and that's why Android is still very, very far behind in terms of consumer mindshare. When you have a facebook app that is half-assed like the Android version, or a serious lack of games that don't suck, its a detriment to the platform in general.

The Apps on android exemplify the problems that seriously afflict Android in general. Lack of UI unification, lack of polish, lack of uniformity in terms of gestures/button-use, and so on. Unfortunately what that means is that, even if iOS might be 'crippled', it is still leaps and bounds ahead of Android when it comes to the actual user experience.

I agree. While I have enjoyed my time with iOS and how polished it is, it has always been too closed for me. My husband on the other-hand prefers iOS to Android. For people like him, iOS "just works".

I agree, I've used IOS for a year on a 3g and played with the latest and it's only got a smooth interface going for it IMO. To me, its simplicity is a myth. Android is easily as simple to get around, it's just different and has more options. Different does not equal harder. People who are used to IOS will initially have a hard time adjusting just like those coming from Android will take some time adjusting to IOS. Both have room for improvement, however I see Android as way more flexible and better at multitasking so for me Android is king.

As for apps, well, I'm into function, not glitz so I have no issues with most of apps on Android. I'll give the games to the iPhone but of course, it's only a matter of time before Android gets its fair share of games.
