Iris Issue

I'm having a weird issue that I can't figure out. I had an S8+ previously that I returned because of the red screen, and the iris scanner would work from AOD (I believe, but I could be misremembering) and definitely if the screen was on. On the one I have now (which has the screen tint update the first one didn't) it doesn't have either. The only way to get iris scan is to swipe up on the lockscreen, which is an added step. Anyone know if this can be changed in settings?
