These days with new smart phones like the very very cool Droid X coming out every other month, do you think a 2 year contract is too long?

I'm starting to do 1 year contracts now. If I didn't do this I would still be stuck on my BB Storm 1 until the end of the year. That would be a shame. Thank god I got my Moto Droid.

Lets see what you think. Please vote in my poll.

As the master of the house,,,

I tend to grab my familys upgrades and give them my old phone.
My son got my Droid. He got the option of buying anything he wanted (he is 18) or getting my droid for free.
With the droid X, My wife will get an incredible. How can you complain!

I'm lucky and have a bunch of upgrades stacked. One of the perks if paying the bills I guess. You always have the choice to buy it for full price.

I always have early upgrades, but the fact that the early termination fee is now $325 or $350, it only makes sense to pay an extra $70 for a 1 year contract. If you are looking at the contract length for upgrade purposes, VZW allows an upgrade every year (if your the primary line). you just have to reup your 2 year contract again from that date. My reason for paying the extra $70 right now is all my lines are no longer under contract. This way I'm only locked in for 1 year for All lines. If I decide I want to switch for a better deal, I'm not locked in an extra year because I wanted a newer phone. $70 extra to cut of a year with an ETF of $350 is well worth it too me.

I also only do one year contracts. I learned that lesson after getting the BB storm. Its also one of the reasons I'm hesitant to get the iPhone ( 2 years locked on AT&T? No WAY!) Plus I like the freedom to get a new phone and/or change carriers every year. I think its worth the extra few bucks when buying a phone.

I voted one year contracts even though I signed a two year contract with Verizon in January to get my Droid. Good to know that they offer annual upgrades anyway.

with the way android is speeding ahead 2 years is just to long. its nice with the annual upgrade. i only do contract phones due to the subsidized price

I'm the same exact way. They haven't complained yet. The wife likes my incredible for size, apps and speed. I told her she can have it once my X comes in.

You pay an extra $70 for the phone and you get an upgrade in 10 months... its pretty awesome. I just wish Verizon worked at my office :(

Sadly I have to use AT&T or Sprint if I want to make calls and they both require 2 year (or non contract)

New Smart phones come out it seems like every 3 months.. Yes different carriers but crap look at the Incredible came out now the Droid X I'm buying this outright and if I want to swap it down the road I can sell it on Ebay and use that money for the new phone I want to buy.

What is the no contract price of this phone? I'm thinking $499.00 but not sure

One year contracts should be the new standard and its going to be the only way I purchase phones now.
