Is anyone else just ants in the pants about a rooted Evo?

Is anyone else just salivating to the thought of this? I was so ecstatic once I finally got my Hero rooted (thanks gbhil!) and realized how much more fun the device was capable of. The mere thought of a rooted, overclocked Evo with added goodies is like porn for technerds.

I'm gonna go douce myself with cold water...

I am going to enjoy this phone if it is rooted or not. I will root it, but think I will give it alittle bit first. Like a week or so, but who knows. I guess I need to root it before I do anything so I can back the entire thing up? Is that true? So if I screw something up it can be put back to stock? Is this correct?

What's root?

It's basically a process that allows you superuser access to the phone permitting you to install custom ROMs, delete bloatware that Sprint has loaded onto the phone that you don't want (Sprint Nascar, Twitter, Stocks, etc), as well as give you access to some epic root-only apps like SetCpu - which allows you to control your phones processor and speed it up if you wanna flex those Evomuscles, or in my Hero's case - slow it down to preserve battery.

And, as if Android wasn't customizable enough, you can change things like the bootscreen, lockscreen, and taskbar.

I like to compare it to a jigsaw puzzle. Except after you finish it, theres 100 pieces left over that you can swap in and out to make it more personalized.

Yeah, I didn't really expect the thread to prompt a hack sub-forum. But like you said... only a matter of time.

I'm really a battery nazi. I hammer my phone all day and with SetCpu and some aggressive task killing lower my phones awake time, my Hero gets 24-30hrs very consistently. I'm considering ordering a 1750mAh battery just in anticipation for how much of a battery hog the Evo might be. We'll see I guess, I ordered extra batteries for my Hero and now 2/3 of them just sit in a drawer.

I am extremely anxious to root the EVO, I remember rooting the Pre just weeks after it was released, and I feel the same anxiety!!

As the EVO will be my first foray into Android I am a little confused. If I ROOT the EVO, does that just allow the additional functionality? After playing around with Sense on an Incredible, I am really digging it. I would like to ROOT to try and use the WIFI hotspot, sans $30/month.

I know you can flash new ROMs and the like, but I have yet to see if you can ROOT and keep the Sense ROM. Thanks!

Hey dudes, very exciting times indeed! I have never owned an android phone before and I am getting ready to purchase the Evo. I have jailbroken my ipod touch before and it was a snap. How difficult is rooting and do you run the risk of bricking your phone? I love the idea of more control and am excited to unleash this beast!

How long does it normally take before the devs have out reliable roms that are sure not to brick your brand new super duper Evo? Couple weeks, couple months????

Just curious. I am a Hero owner who just rooted (Fresh Rom) his phone a month or so back, after fretting over it for a long time. Now I am thinking about how much time I wasted on the unrooted Hero. UHG Now I am so excited about rooting my Evo when there is a very reliable ROM out there that will have all the goodies in it. I am thinking it will take some time (months) but I am not really sure about that. Any past practice that you historians would know about?

There's an app called Titanium Backup that a lot of people in the root world swear by. I install very few apps, so even though I've changed ROMs a number of times, I don't bother with it because it doesnt take long to get all 10-15 of my apps back.
