Is AT&T getting rid of 3G soon?

Hey guys. In a bit of a dilemma. I just bought an international unlocked LG G3 phone and can't get LTE because the seems like US carriers lock down on which bands are covered and supported specifically for their company. This phone can get LTE everywhere in the world BUT North America. Which is frustrating.

I really like the phone and the price I got, but I heard AT&T will be getting rid of 3G soon which would make my phone obsolete. Can this be confirmed?

It's more a matter of their having to buy licenses for each band for each market. The late 2014 auction (the FCC auctions off the spectrum) brought in almost $50 billion in bids. No company can afford to buy all bands in all markets. Even Exxon doesn't have that kind of money to spend.

The "international" versions come in European, Asian and, usually some specialty versions like China and Japan. So of course a European version would have all the bands used in Europe - which might leave out some of the bands used in north America.

You'll probably be looking to get a new phone by then. (And I think the phone should be able to get 4G on AT&T -700MHz almost all over at this time.)
