Is buying the Google Pixel 3 really worth it?

2 is fine. Heck I'm on 1 and its fine. I'll probably upgrade to 3 when the vzw deals start flowing.

I was always tempted by buying a Pixel phone to get the pure Android experience but the price was always offsetting. Is the Pixel 3 really this amazing for a 799$ pricetag?

For me it definitely is.
My Pixel 2 XL is a great pocket computer with an incredible camera that just happens to have a phone in it! My Pixel 3 XL will be even better!

None of us own one, but I'd say a lot of us own/have owned either the Pixel or Pixel 2 and yes they're great overall devices. You do miss out on specs and features that other (sometimes much cheaper) phones have, but you gain a unique experience that you don't get on other android phones.

Is it worth the $800? Guess that's up to the individual to decide. I think you should create a list of features that you find most important to you and decide which phone closely matches those important features.

In a ultra rare moment, I agree with Hero. Pixels are great devices, but I think value is really determined by use case. $800 USD is a lot of money and you really should think about what's important to you and buy whatever device maximizes your user experience.

no.
because it's over-priced.
no local Google Store to help customers
big notch, big chin
dual stereo speakers
stock android.
fast updates.
3 years major updates
looks like 2 year's behind the competition

stock android and fast updates you can also get on Android One Phone's.
Snapdragon 845 is also in PoCoPhone which cost £280~

How many other brands have local stores except Apple?

Not sure how dual stereo speakers is a demerit.

Or stock Android and fast updates for that matter. It sounds like he wanted to make a list of all the bad things, ran short, and start listing pros as cons.

I guess the question I'd ask is, why is he here? If you have no interest in the device or first hand experience, why go to a forum about said device? That'd be like me going to a forum on women's issues and giving my input.

Worth it is in the eye of the beholder. If camera is highly important you'll likely say yes. Otherwise, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Google currently has a monopoly on pure Android and fast updates. If that's important then the monopoly surcharge is worth it. Sadly, I think Pixels also contain an Apple tax. Google wants their product positioning to be comparable to iPhones, so they have to price them accordingly.

Are the Pixels overpriced for their specs? Yea, probably. Are the cameras and/or pure Android + updates worth the extra monopoly/Apple tax? Every person must decide that for themselves.

Sorry but you can't determine value based on the hardware specs alone. We don't know what the software engineering overheads are for the camera as an example.
