Is it better to keep topping up or let the battery drain to 20%, in order to preserve battery life?

Hello

For my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus's battery life...

Is it better to:
A) Keep topping up the charge or
B) Allow the phone's battery to drain to down to say 20% charge before fully charging it?

Also,
- Is it okay to leave the phone on charge all night - or will that damage the phone's battery?
- Are there any other hints & tip to maintain battery life?

What does it cost to replace the battery on a Note10+? Do you have to send it away to Samsung or can a shop replace it while you wait?

Background
I ask all these questions because my old Galaxy Note 3 had a terrible battery life. And even when I tried to buy a new battery, by then nobody seemed to have any original batteries that had been properly maintained, and therefore all of them had a terrible battery life.

Some people believe that topping off is the best way. The more battery you lose is the harder the charger and battery has to work to replenish it. But I found that regularly topping up my s10+ actually killed the battery life so I drain to about 20% and recharge and it is holding out better for me. YMMV

I am going to replace my battery in the S10+ later this year and it will cost me £100 with a Samsung certified repairer. It is worth the cost to me as I love my phone and do not want to replace it.

I had my Note 10+ from pre-order to about a month ago and would regularly charge it via wireless charger at night. Other charging would be topping up via wired charger when in the living room and on the car wireless charger when driving. I know many people swear by keeping charge levels between 20 - 80% but I never paid attention to that. I always charged to 100% and never saw a drop in battery performance. Right before trading for the Note 20U I checked battery health with Accubattery and it was at 93.4%.

Battery experts would tell you that it's ideal to keep lithium batteries between 40% and 80%, but from a real world standpoint, that's fairly unfeasible. My routine is to charge the phone once it gets down to 30%, and I let it go up to 100% (and I let it remain on a wireless charger overnight). My Pixel 3 XL is a little over 2 years old, and the battery health is down to 89-90%, according to Accubattery (in general, when it gets down to 85%, that's when you really notice that the battery is wearing down). Since I usually upgrade my phone every 2-3 years, this pattern works totally fine for me.

However, if you plan to use the phone as your primary device for much longer (like 4-5 years), that's when it can be more important to be careful about charging habits. Keeping the phone charging overnight repeatedly can potentially contribute to battery wear over that time span, so what I would do in that situation would be to charge it up to about 80% every night, leave it off charger overnight, then charge it up to 100% (or close to it) every morning before starting my day.

Note 3 would never get the battery life of a Note 10+
I charged mine 5% to 100% had it before trading in for my Note20U and got 1 day battery with 10 -12 SOT , you might not see that as its dependent of carrier you use and apps etc.. but definitely should see close or half what im got .

Keep the battery in the "happy zone"

40-80%

You can charge it up to 100 if you want just try not to keep it on the charger constantly bumping from the high 90's to 100. That will wear your battery quick.

I keep my battery charge between 95 and 40 % most of the time. The recommended 40 -80% range is too stringent for me. I use an app that gives an alarm when the battery level is out of my set range.
