Is it me, or is Google Voice a pain in the ass?

...I mean sure, it's nice that you can have multiple phones ring with a single number. And the Google Voice site makes it easy for texting...

But aside from that, having no Caller ID kinda sucks (except for the kind you get when you pick up the phone - which makes you have to enable the keypad on your handset - another annoyance.)

Regardless of how I configure it, I always get two texts to my droid - one from the gvoice number, another from the gvoice app...

Maybe I'm missing something? Does anyone else find it to be annoying, at least in its current iteration?

In the google voice settings you can turn off the text updates to your phone from the site. That's what I did cuz it was driving me nuts. Took me forEVER to figure out how to get it set up just right.

i use it for texting and the voicemail app. do all my texting through that or gtalk so it saves me a lot of money each month.

i just use it for voicemail, and for that it is awesome. i love not having to dial in to verizon's mailbox

I love it for that as well. My primary use is for when we are away from home from a few days; I forward the home line to the Google Voice number so calls come to my cell (though GV screens blocked caller IDs.) As for caller ID for incoming calls, my phone always correctly identifies the caller, but there is a setting for that (under the "calls" setting.)

I'm also generally amused by the transcriptions, which can be unintentionally funny.

It's you. I'm very happy with it. That said, I can't think of anything in the world that everyone likes. No single solution will make every person out there happy.

I have caller ID. Have you opted to have all inbound calls show your GV number?

You're not disabling the SMS forwarding properly then. Try doing so from the GV site on your PC. Under Phone settings.

It sounds to me like you just need to spend some more time getting familiar with it. Anything will be frustrating if you don't know how to use it. If you have specific questions then definitely ask away.

I used GV for a while but stopped. Basically I didn't want everyone to have to change to a new number plus text messages was a little cumbersome but even without the text messages problem I still didn't like it. I would add my GV number to my Friends and Family plan with Verizon and that would make all incoming calls free but I had to keep the caller ID as the GV number therefore not allowing me to know who is calling and the call screening thing no one actually used they just made a sound and I never knew who was calling. Plus no outgoing calls? So I don't know. I would love for it to work but it doesnt look like it does as an all in one solution. The voicemail transcripts are SO SO SO far off.

Yeah, Transcripts are really bad.

Doesn't seem to work "that" transparently. Seems awkward withoptions to answer, but I'm still getting used to it.

I'm slowly integrating it. I'll use the Gvoice no. for people I don't really know and for places I do business with, like credit card companies etc etc...

I knew of this prior to ordering mine. So what i did was shave down using sand paper around the bulky end of the micro usb housing took about a 1/2 hr. Problem solved. I will be doing this the all the cables i use with the exception to the factory charging cables that came with the S4 it fits perfect.

I use google voice daily and it works fine. However, I find the GV app is very buggy especially playing back voice mails. It badly needs an update..
