Is it possible to text via wifi without charges on a prepaid plan?

Hi, so I got a prepaid smartphone, and my goal was to only use wifi, and never add minutes to the phone.

Surfing the internet and calling has been fine, but after 2 weeks, I got the message "Unable to send message - Message Blocking is active." I couldn't send a text message without adding minutes. I assumed that once my minutes were depleted, it would automatically revert to wifi texting.

Is it possible to text via wifi without charges on a prepaid plan? Maybe this is their way of preventing a totally-free user on their network. (I am using a Samsung Galaxy On5, btw)

SMS texting should not be using any of your minutes as long as it is text only. MMS messages that carry pictures and movies will be using cellular data.

Some carriers allow some phones to use wifi for calling and sometimes for text messages. However, I can easily see the carrier not distinguishing between wifi and mobile data connections for them since they need to be translated into "normal" calls/messages.

Sounds like you need to talk to your carrier and see what the details are.
