Is it safe to buy a Nexus 7 now (October)?

Been wanting to buy the Nexus 7 for a while now, though living in a 'developing' country rather far from the U.S., namely Cambodia, I am only able to get it when travelling to the U.S. I'm able to grab one in the next week though in NYC.
My question is though, if I get one, bring it back to Cambodia, how likely will it be that the N7 I get is a faulty one, with the screen problems like some others have. I can't send it back and get it replaced of course, so I need to be sure mine is A-Okay.
I really want to get the N7, but I need to be sure that the latest ones have improved versus the first batches of N7's.
Any input or ideas would be great, thanks.

Safe? Sure. I've bought 3 in the last few weeks, and all in good working condition.

Advisable? I'd wait, unless you have some urgency in buying. Google's got some announcements coming in 2 weeks. Could be lower prices, and new model offering,...

All reports are that the latest batches are great. I'd say it's a great time to get one, especially if you'll be in the US for a few days (buy one as soon after arrival as you can at a retail store with a good return policy, run it through its paces, and you'll have plenty of time to exchange or return it if you happen to get a bad one).

As far as actual timing, it's possible that Google's upcoming announcements may affect model availability (rumor is that the 16GB may be discontinued and replaced with a 32GB) and you might be able to get a real deal on one - or a better model for the same price - if you wait just a few weeks.

However, if you don't have the opportunity to buy one very often and you feel that the current models are worth the current pricing (and you can handle learning about a better deal a few weeks later), I'm pretty confident you'll end up with a good one on the first try.

buy it as soon as you get here from some stores and if they are faulty just return and get it replaced.

there is also a 32 gb coming according to rumors but if you are not staying for long and this version is not released get the 16 Gb.

the one coming out now are without any issues.

Thanks guys, you're really helpful :). All the confirmation I needed for the upcoming week, especially about the new batch being more problem-free. I do probably have a rather small time frame of opportunity so thanks for the advice on that :).

seems like staples is carrying 32 gb now on staples advantage but not sure if it will be available at stores.
you might want to call and check with staples. 32GB Nexus 7 Shows Up On Staples Advantage For $250
