Guys im planning to unlock my samsung device through theunlockingcompany.com. every single unlockling service requires an IMEI number of the phone. is this safe to give out to the website? What can happen if the website is unreliable?

They must check the IMEI against the IMEI blacklist to be sure the phone is not stolen or still under contract to a service provider. It's the only way to provide a legitimate unlock code. You should be worried if they do not ask for the IMEI, not if they do.

But im wondering if it is bad if someone DOES know your IMEI. I mean, is the website im going to use legitimate? if it is, then I shouldn't be worried?

If you have serious doubt's about whether or not a site is legitimate, then you shouldn't even consider using it. Personally, I would never use an unlocker site. But I've never needed to. If the phone itself is legitimate, you should be able to get the carrier it's locked to to unlock it. I've never had a problem doing that. No need to pay for an unlock.

There's not much they can do with your IMEI anyway. An unlock code can only be issued once per number. If they think they've scammed a way to do something like sell multiple codes against an IMEI, well, they don't need your number for that. They could use anything.
