Is it safe to insert an empty sim tray into the M8?

I'm confused. When you buy the phone isn't the SIM tray empty?

If you buy from a GSM carrier it might be empty since you're generally going to switch your Sim card from your old phone to the new one, but on CDMA carriers (Sprint and Verizon) the only purpose of the SIM is to authorize 4G LTE data, no contacts are stored, none of that stuff like on GSM, 100% LTE authorization. You'll never switch a cdma phone SIM card into a new phone, so they just come with them.

Not true. I have Verizon, and the Sim card allows you to store messages and contacts on it.

Really? Huh, didn't know that. In that case I'll revise my statement to, there would be little point in using a SIM for anything on CDMA phones.
