Is it safe to say Gingerbread Evos will not get root?

At this point it seems like the Evo is starting to take a back seat to a lot of other phones, and this long after the Gingerbread update and we have no root. I had to make an insurance claim on my phone, and the new one I got came preloaded with gingerbread and s-on, meaning no hope for root for me. Which is very disappointing, because I still have almost a year before my contract is up.

Why is it so hard to do, and why have developers seemingly ditched efforts? I realize most people that want root have root, but with the Evo dropping down in price, that has to mean even more people getting it, right? Agghh, I just want root please someone...

Patients, it will be here soon. Pretty much all the highly skilled hackers took on the 3D first. As it is the newest and must have phone on Sprint at this moment. Now that the 3D has temp root and I'm pretty sure S-off isn't too far away, the OG Evo is being worked on. The kernel source was just released today so that should help speed things up.

In the mean time here is the thread for all related root discussion for 2.3

I was in the exact same boat and if my EVO 4G hadn't been damage and I forced to exchange it I would have been happy to run with my rooted 4G for most of the next year, until the 2012 models were out. :p

As it is, I jumped onboard the EVO 3D (the 3D effect is NOT a mature technology) simply because I saw the writing on the wall and saw that the 3D was closer to root than the 4G stock 2.3.3 was. I know there's a lot of folks still on the 4G with stock 2.3.3, and I hope they get root, but I wasn't willing to wait with that uncertainty.

I know when the time comes, Cyanogen will be ROCKIN' on the dual-core 3D. :D

Hopefully, that would be amazing...I've been real disappointed wwith battery life ever since I lost root and was forced to run sense, I could easily get 50% more battery life with cyanogenmod.

Well since the revolution doesn't support the EVO, and people asking the unrevoked devs on wiki and them saying the EVO is not gonna happen anytime soon, I would say the chances are getting slimmer day by day.

who cares what this says anyways

I been looking for the past 4-5 hours and idont think there ready for the evo wit stock 2.3.3 yet but from wat i been readin there wil be on soon as people are done hackin the hensintion 4g and the evo 3d first:cool so just chill:cool:

It looks like the EVO 4G is left out in the cold. No root and no one working on it.

I am very disappointed that people kept telling us that devs were working on this the past two months when obviously they were not. I don't trust the devs after the lies and false hope. And I don't trust HTC since they lied about open boot-loaders and then proceeded to lock down all phones without warning through an update.

I guess the lesson for the future is to buy nexus phones and not rely on anyone.
