No, your Evo is not playing a April fools joke on you, I have a Andriod mind meld with your device and I'm controlling it

If you are using HTC weather, the HTC servers are prolly borked again. I use Beautiful Widgets weather. No issues with that.....

So did I for a while there. But then the Android Market Security Tool was pushed through to my phone, and the problem was fixed. But the time zone problem still happens, very rarely.

It's seems to have fixed itself and hasn't gone back all day so I'm just hoping it was a temporary glitch and not a virus lol..

It's not a virus. It's a Sprint/HTC issue. Don't worry, you will be in Africa again sometime.

When stock my girlfriends would randmonly show some 3rd world country and say it was like 100+ degrees and we were in dead of winter in PA. lol.
I always chuckled when that happened.

I personally have never had it happen and rooted her and put her on diff roms and never seen it again.

I had this happening initially but it stopped after I went into settings and unchecked the Automatic setting for Use network Date and Time. I do miss my sudden, unscheduled virtual trips to the middle east though.

The worst part is the time setting. My alarm woke me up at 1 am instead of 7 am because it switched times! Was almost very early to work.

If you are running a Sense or rooted Stock ROM, you can still have the phone get PRL updates. It's the OTA system updates that will break your root. You can also update your Profile and not have any problems.
