Is my hinge loose?

I hold the phone upside down and it slides open, not with ease, but it slides, do I have the hinge problem? I just got the thing and heard about the problem... Please and thank you.
By the way, I ask because this is my first slider phone I don't know how it is supposed to act...

EDIT: I think so, I grab the top part and the hinge just opens up, I think I might replace it, hopefully one with a working hinge

Sounds like you have a defective device... holding it by the bottom (keyboard) and having the screen float down is a KNOWN issue. I just returned mine to a T-Mobile store and they said if they opened another box it would do the same thing, so I said I wanted my money back... they gave it to me. Unfortunately that means going back to my Blackberry 9700 and wait until they resolve this issue, or buy a different Android.

Yeah I got another one, this issue has not reoccured... I am loving this device though, you are a fool to just return it, at least get the Vibrant or MyTouch Slide, BlackBerry devices are so annoying(in my opinion at least)

Is it supposed to be wobbly when the keyboard is hidden? Whenever I tap the screen it has this wobble...

I read that it is the design of the hinges "Z" and that this is normal .... but if you returned and the new one did not do it ... hell I am exchanging mine for a new one cause it does the same thing

That's not part of the hinge, I mean it isn't a slider no matter how HTC puts it, so I assume it will always be wobbly, however it shouldn't just open up like my first one did...

I just picked my G2 up today, and noticed this same issue, hopped on here to post about it but looks like its already a well known problem. I'll be exchanging mine tomorrow...

It's not an issue in any way for me... the only way my hinges failed were when I was purposely trying to see if my G2 has the same "issue", but otherwise it's always fine in real-world settings

Well my new one doesn't do that, so really, if I were you I would exchange it, my new one feels a whole lot more solid

The guy at the T-mo store didn't believe me till I had him play with my G2, he said it looks like the magnets are not catching, and they replaced it for me. The new one is significantly better, the screen does not open when I flip it upside down now. Anybody know if there are actually magnets that are supposed to be catching? Sounds kinda strange to me

I am sure as hell there are no magnets in this mechanism, it wouldn't make sense. It is on this four axis thing, it isn't a TRUE slider, it is pretty weird, it works very well however HTC should've never done it, I can tell people are so angry from this new "slider" it doesn't work smoothly, it works though.

Just do this, look at the hinge when it is closing, and it is just being lifted up and being put down.
