Is my HTC One rooted ?!

I have a HTC One and I'm fairly a fanatic about conserving battery life so much so I used to be quite happy when I got 2 days out of it when it was first purchased, after the Android 4.2 update it went down although after scouring the internet I managed to bring it up with some good tips and tricks. I've recently looked into rooting and I took the plunge after I was convinced by the benefits although I would seem to have run into a problem of a weird sort !
I followed a video which showed me how to unlock the bootloader and root the HTC One and It worked with the SU application showing my phone was rooted, I took the liberty of downloading a custom ROM (ViperOne) and after downloading a few root applications, I've been getting notifications from some apps saying my phone has to be rooted and the app seizes to work. I've downloaded various root checking apps and out of 5 apps which were downloaded, only 1 said my phone was rooted. I'm quite confused as I downloaded an app called "Greenify" when my phone wasn't rooted and it wouldn't work and now I downloaded it and it actually works ! I downloaded Titanium Backup and that wouldn't work along with a host of others asking for root permission.
I was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to tell me what to in order to remedy this, if not can someone advise on how to delete the ROM so I'm working with just a stock version of sense WITH root capabilities (before ROM installation), PS Is it possible to unroot your phone but still have the bootloader unlocked ?!
Thanks !

Hello Don,

First.. Go into your SuperUser application and see what that is showing you. Sometimes its easy to miss or click the wrong option at the start of root requesting applications. For example you mentioned Titanium Backup giving you problems, it should however be shown in your SuperUser app list. You should be able to click the app in the list or the icon to the right of the app name and get an option to grant/deny access. Try that to see what happens.

Viper ROM your speaking of, which version? The older version based on Android 4.1.2 or the newer on Android 4.3?

I'm running the newer 4.3 version myself.

By the way which custom recovery did you install? TWRP (TeamWin) or CWM (ClockWorkMod)? Either way if you download and flash the attached SuperUser (Root) file in your custom recovery it should fix your problem.

Thanks for reply, I'm running 4.3 with Sense 5.5. I booted into recovery and after the reboot, the phone seems to be working properly, all root apps are asking for permissions and they work.
Can I ask, are you familiar with the app SetCPU ?!
