Is my phones rooted or not?

Just bought another optimus phone for my mom. She didnt need Reborn or anything she just wanted the wireless hotspot.

The guy i bought it off of said that i was rooted but didnt have Reborn. So i took his word for it and mom got her phone hooked up and I added the widget and even tried manually and all it says is "Unable to connect to Network"


Now she does have "superuser" in her app drawer which I didnt think came on the stock phone.

Am i doing something wrong? Is there another way to check or to get it to work?

Mine had Reborn when I got it so i just added the widget and it worked right away.

Can i put my memory card in her phone and just load Reborn and solve the problem???

You need a custom recovery to install reborn.

Well I am not trying to get Reborn on the phone I am just trying to get the hotspot to work.

Have you tried do download a app that requires root, like titanium backup? If it installs & works than you still have root! IF not run the gingersnap to re-root phone found here:

If you have a computer you could use this method as well:

If you have the SDK tools (adb shell) installed on your computer you could check to see if your rooted too!


But if you are running stock rom you may not be-able to use the hotspot even if you are rooted, the last update took care of that! If you want to use hotspot you will need a custom rom.

enter a terminal emulater (its an app you can download) and enter su, hit allow permission from the app leave the emulater app, open it again and hit su again, if the $ to the left of the cursor turns into a #, your rooted.

I think the OP is mainly concerned with getting wireless hotspot widget running on a stock rooted phone. I think even being rooted, Harry's Wireless Hotspot Widget doesn't work on the stock rom since VC. I think you either need wireless tether for root users, or you need a custom rom that allows the widget to run.

Download cleanROM its stock but adblocked oc'd and has tether enabled

Download Root Checker off of Android Market. It tells you if you are rooted.
