Today i decided to root my s3 with odin and upon completing it and reaching the pass screen i turn my phone on, it shows the boot logo, asks me for my password (because it is encrypted) and then the screen turns black. How screwed am i? did it mess up because i had encryption on? thanks.

You should be able to reload the stock firmware to recover the device.

That depends on what you did to root it, but it's probable. Ideally you'd want the phone to be completely stock (unencrypted) before you start the root process.

You could try a Factory Reset (which will clear your data as well as unencrypt it) and see if it boots properly and remains rooted.

Generally speaking you want to provide more information when seeking help: model number/carrier/region/firmware version; a link to the rooting method that you used; etc.
