hi,
I cant tell if my droid is defective.
This is what its done in the past few days AFTER a hard reset.
Sometimes I have it sitting idle, I go to use it, to simply unlock the screen and it never turns the screen on..so im forced to pull the battery..

it did something similar to that a few days ago when I was the gym playing my mp3's on it. It worked fine for most of my workout then all of a sudden I lost the screen again.. lost the screen and the music stopped and all..only to turn itself back on and get stuck in the portrait view for a while.

I have to do a few battery pulls on this darn thing.

My concern is that why, after sitting idle, to just go and unlock it, I lose the screen completely and need to do a battery pull?

my main problem is that I was going to exchange this phone early this week at my local best buy, but this phone is back ordered, and none knows when the next shipment will arrive.

I was told by one best buy rep that the store managers know the phone is backordered and that they should honor a exchange for a defective device after the 30 days are up.
I have until the 17th of this month I guess, to exchange it. Im just worried that vzw cant do anything, its a best buy thing and no best buy in my area has any in stock!

does it seem like its a defective device and any suggestions for dealing with bes buy? I was going to go in there tommorow and tell them listen its doing this and that, please note my account that im having issues and that they when they get their supply I may be beyond my 30 days and it wasnt my fault..

any ideas?

thanks so much!

I would get it in writing that they will take care of you after the 30 days. (something you can take with you - not just a "noted account")
also froyo may fix any software glitch you may have if that comes before more stock does.

pinco, I did an ESN change tonight that didn't go the way it should have. The result was total loss of data and a hard reset. This was my third hard reset because of the screen locking-up in the 5 days I have had my phone. About the time I got logged into gmail and restored my contacts, my wife dropped something heavy on her foot and I had to drive her to the ER.

While waiting in the ER, I was experencing screen lag / lockup while I was reading about it in this forum. As far as I am concerned, if it does it after a fresh hard reset, they can't blame it on task killers or downloaded programs, etc.

So I called Verizon. I started off telling the tech guy it can't be related to anything I downloaded and installed because I haven't downloaded and installed anything onto it yet. Then he tells me he knows all about it. They got an official notice about the problem around the first of the week. All of the problems people are having with the screen locking up have been traced to batches of defective phones sent to Verizon by Motorola.

The tech guy assured me Motorola has fixed the problem. And the replacement phone they will send me on Friday will not have the screen problem.

Even if you have not gone past the 30 day cut-off for exchanging it for a new phone, I would start by completely bypassing Best Buy. Simply Dial 611 and choose technical assistance. That will get you to Verizon's 2nd level technical assistance. As soon as you get a real person ask them to escalate the call to a supervisor. Even if you don't get a supervisor, you'll get the guy's full attention. Tell him you took it back to Best Buy and they blew you off. I don't think you will have to put your foot down too hard to get them to replace your defective phone with a brand new one.

This just answered my concern. Haha I also ordered mine from best buy and the people said the same exact thing. It's back ordered we dont know when the shipments will be in blah blah. As of now I was going to wait until they had shipments, but now that I read this I will gladly call VZW tomorrow and try to get things rolling. Thanks for this!

I would for sure get something in writing .
I am not sure how vzw operates though 3rd party stores such as best buy ,this is why I prefer to deal with a corp. vzw store directly there can't be any finger pointing ,,, well not as much finger pointing anyhoo ! ;)
