Is Nexus 7 too small for home use?

I think you will be happy with your decision.

In my opinion,. a 10" tablet won't provide enough benefit over a 7" to bother with the extra weight or less convenient size.

Like a few people have mentioned, my thought is to use my Nexus 7 for anything that a tablet is good for, and if I need more, I use my laptop, or go sit at my computer.

As far as watching movies etc. I have a 42" tv (probably a touch small for my room for some people), but I learned something several years ago when I took a picture of my laptop, and I noticed something when I looked at the picture later... The laptop (because it was closer) was significantly larger visually than the tv that was in the background of the picture. I just looked at this the other night with my Nexus 7, and holding it where I usually hold it, and comparing it to my tv... the 7" tablet has a larger effective size than the 42" tv due to the decreased distance. Plus, I can more easily use headphones with the tablet for great sound.

I think you made the right choice. For me, with today's technology, for those times when you need more than a 7" tablet, a compact laptop is probably a better option than a 10" tablet.

My thoughts exactly! I'll need to get a new laptop next year anyway. This feels like a perfect device for using at home or taking with me when I feel that a laptop isn't necessary :-)

I find for viewing movies the 7 inch is fine, but for reading web pages I prefer my nexus 10 or iPad. Text is just too small on the 7 inch.

Many (most?) apps let you zoom to a comfortable text size. Not all, so you do have a point of course, but for many people it may never be an issue.

Whatever Web text you want to read, simply double tap and it zooms out to fill the screen. When finished reading, double tap again to zoom back. It's even better than a larger tablet because you eliminate all the winking and blinking advertising garbage when zoomed in. For me 7" is the ideal size.

I own both the Nexus 7 and 10. I rarely use the Nexus 10, it's been over a month since I used it last. I've just found the 7 to be the ideal size for me. Yeah, the Nexus 10 has a great screen, actually quite impressive once you see it in person. But for extended use it becomes cumbersome. It starts to get heavy after I've been holding it for a while. The 7 is still great for viewing videos and what have you. The resolution is high enough for acceptable reading of books and magazines, I can read the text in magazines without having to zoom in. And it actually fits in my back pocket without issue and is pretty darned light, especially compared to the 2012 model.

I'm a big fan of the 7'' form factor for reading (websites, ebooks, email, whatever) and portability. The N7 also has the hardware and display to play most games perfectly.

I do not like my N7 for prolonged office work or reading digital comics. Fortunately I have a chromebook for office work and I do most of my comic reading on dead trees.

My favorite thing? Linking it to my BT speaker and streaming music from it. Beats giant stereo and having to change CDs any day.

No need to do anything to deal with text size on a the Nexus 10. Also, you can read webpages clearly in portrait mode.

I use the double tap method with my Nexus 7 and even rotate it to landscape, but those are to compensate for the smaller screen.

I'll look at the updated Nexus 10 when it's introduced. I reserve the right to discover one in my Christmas stocking! :-)

It a minor issue, but since I have access to a Nexus 10,I prefer it for web pages. I also prefer my Nexus 7 over my 5 inch DNA for the same reason.

I find myself grabbing the Nexus 7 more than my iPad 2 because of the extreme difference in weight mostly. I think if the iPad 2 weighed the same as the Nexus 7 (technically not feasible right now) I wouldn't mind it so much.

But there is also the form factor I suppose. If you are thinking of a paperback book replacement, the Nexus 7 is more the size of a book I suppose. But the iPad is more the size of a magazine.

Hard to say.

But I do find myself using the Nexus 7 much more than I do the iPad 2.

One other difference is that I've gotten the voice input working pretty well with the Nexus 7 now, for dictation. The iPad 2 doesn't have Siri, nor does it have a Swype keyboard, so that makes a big difference in convenience.

What is the voice input feature on the Nexus 7 called by the way? In other words, what is the name for the Siri of Android 4.3?
