Is the finger print sensor on the back a button?

This may sound like a stupid question but is it a button or just a type of sensor?
I ask because I currently have a G4 and love the buttons on the back. Besides the camera and the button on the back, the rest of the software sucks pretty bad so I'm considering the 6P. If I could sleep/wake it by pushing a button on the back, and the camera is decent, I'll be switching.

It's just a sensor, not a button. But supposedly you can wake your phone by using the fingerprint sensor so might still solve your problem.

Just a sensor.. no movement. Phone is off... just put your finger on the sensor and it'll turn on and unlock your phone and dump you into your homescreen.
