Is the first boot supposed to take this long? :/

Just got mine, set it all up and... It's just been stuck on the swirling color boot screen. Was on there for five minutes, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it's been ten minutes now of swirling color balls. :/

Mine was a few minutes, did basic config, started downloading 5.0, then 14% downloaded rebooted again and continued.

I let mine sit after plugging it in again, and it was stuck in the boot animation for 30+ minutes. Unplugged it again, let it stay unplugged for a couple minutes, plugged it back in, stayed in boot animation for another 5+ minutes before I unplugged again. I guess I'll try it again tomorrow, but I imagine it must be dead, so I'll have to contact Google and go through the hassle of returning it and waiting for a new one. Given my "luck", I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. v_v

A factory reset should fix it (see the section about using the reset button):

Someone on G+ had the same issue and that fixed it

I had similar issues (sat on initial screen for 30 minutes until I rebooted), but after the reboot it started working after a few minutes. Definitely was annoying start to device. Good to know factory reset got it working.
