Do you know which carrier version of the Nexus 9? It looks like there are two--one specifically from T-Mobile, and one direct from HTC: HTC Nexus 9 - Full tablet specifications. Verizon uses LTE bands 2, 4, and 13, with their strongest band being 13. So it looks like the T-Mobile version might be more likely to work on the Verizon network.

That being said, Verizon can be very picky about what devices it lets you activate on their network, so before you think about buying a Nexus 9, I would call Verizon and speak to one of their tech support people (not a store rep) to confirm that it will work.
