Is the Optimus S screen glass or plastic?

PC Magazines 11/9 Review says the screen is glass
LG Optimus S (Sprint) Review & Rating | PCMag.com

The 3.2-inch glass capacitive touch screen LCD has 320-by-480-pixel resolution, which is still common for Android.

I'm going to call complete BS on that one. It's plastic. Tap it with your finger nail then tap a glass screen phone like the hero, evo, or iphone. Big difference in sound and give huh? Also put your finger on it and press down a little bit .... see that flex or bowing? Glass, hardened or not, this thin would shatter.

Although I have nothing telling me 100% it's glass or plastic, I do have my experience with previous phones telling me it's not glass. I should contact LG and put this to bed.

KSmithInNY: When you contact LG make sure to ask them what the deal is with the SD card bug.

Fiber Glass AKA Glas-reinforced plastic AKA fancy way of saying it's plastic.

10:31 AM Stephanie: Hello K.P.. Welcome to LG Electronics! How may I provide you with excellent service today?
10:31 AM K.P.: Hello, i own the Sprint LG optimus S LGLS670. Can you please tell me what material the screen is made of? Wondering if its glass or plastic
10:32 AM Stephanie: I would be happy to help you with that.
10:32 AM Stephanie: I would like to please place you on a brief hold while I research that for you, will that be alright?
10:32 AM K.P.: yes
10:33 AM Stephanie: Thank you!
10:34 AM Stephanie: Thank you for your patience while I researched that for you.
10:34 AM Stephanie: Is fiber glas.

Well, that's better than pure plastic...but will still scratch with almost no pressure. Screen protectors, everyone!

Sounds like it's just as expensive as glass. Shoulda just used glass. I bet they purposely didn't make it glass to keep it a "low-mid range" phone.

The Optimus one (P500) costs less than our phones, has a tempered glass screen, and has a light sensor. I'd love to be a fly on the wall sometimes when these companies make decisions about phones.

No matter, I'm holding out for boxwave so I'm hoping they don't let me down. You'll have to pay more then a generic made in china one off ebay, typically around $15 for a boxwave, but it will be the best screen protector you've ever owned.

Check the thread in the T section.

I use them on my EVO's and they are awesome. Applied perfectly and clear as day.

Then this fiberglass screen may not crack or shatter as much as glass? I hear the HTC Aria's are quite easy to crack if dropped

Any type of glass is going to crack or shatter if dropped, look at the iphone for example :p that's gorilla glass!!!

I do believe this may be harder to shatter because of it being plastic it has more flex or give to it but it's going to scratch easier than you'd believe.

I remember how easy my instinct's screen scratched. And the pre.

That case looks nice.

New member here, Android Central is a great resource thanks to all who contribute. I did find some additional info on the subject of the screen material.

"Structurally, the Optimus T's screen is not glass and is not fully integrated into the fa?ade of the phone, for we could press the transparent plastic sheet inwards a few millimeters. Because the screen is not glass, finger swipe action was not as smooth, and we worry about scratches over time."

There is no way the screen is glass. And it seems that over time using Swype will result in a multitude of scratches.

She must have meant Plexi-Glass. Because fiber glass is a sheet of woven fibers covered in resin to harden it. It is far from clear.

Coming from the Hero I can say the screen in most definitely not Gorilla Glass. Whether it's plastic or some sort of plastic glass combo I can't say. But I do know it scratches much easier than the Hero screen; I already have a number of scratches within the first week.

Aside from that I love the screen and have no issues with it not being slick enough. I just need to fix up some of these scratches and get a screen protector on it.

I had an optimus 5 for several years. Yeah, it's plastic and it never broke. I beat the crap out of it. I was working in the yard with my new LG Volt, pulled it out of my pocket and I must have bumped my wheelbarrow against my pocket. I was shocked to see a shattered screen when I pulled it out of my pocket. I didn't even realize I had damaged it. What's so bad about plastic/screen protector? Virgin Mobile and LG both suck as far as helping me facilitate a repair. LG's option is pay to ship it to them and they will give me an estimate 5-7 days after receipt. They can't just tell me what replacing the gorilla glass/digitizer runs? WTH?
