Define everyday things? I think that's pretty broad considering how different people use their phones. But for basic tasks such as text, reminders, emails, etc., then yes, it should be useful.

Are you thinking about getting a S3?

thinking of getting one as a gift to someone....

someone who seems to have the Note5 superglued to the right hand. :)

There is nothing that the watch can do that can't be done with a smartphone. If you don't find it a hassle to pull out your phone, there is little utility gained by wearing a smartwatch. But if you're someone who likes gadgets, or normally wear a watch anyway, or sometimes don't have your phone readily assessable, or $300 is cheap enough to be an impulsive buy, a smartwatch may be worthwhile. Even for those of us who wear these watches, few would say it's an absolutely compelling device.

I have an S2 currently and will be buying an S3 Frontier once they come out.

For me the advantage of the smart watch is stealth: I can be in a meeting at work and read + reply to texts without being blatantly obvious about it. I also love SamsungPay and the idea of being able to pay from my watch is very appealing. ;)

where did you get the $300 price? everywhere I looked, it said $499 for the S3 Frontier... :(

For me, a smartwatch (I have a Gear S2 3G) is useful for:

1. Quickly telling time
2. Quickly viewing who's calling or texting me. Easy filtering
3. Quick reading of notifications
4. Samsung Pay. This will become more useful once I get the Gear S3 with MST included
5. Quick phone calls on the wrist
6. Quick access to timer & stopwatch functions
7. Quick music control
8. Quick weather checking
9. Quick calculator access (I use it at work often)

All the above things can, of course, be done on a phone but having a smartwatch saves me time and makes everyday tasks more convenient and flexible for me. Before getting my Gear S2,I haven't worn a watch in over 10 years.

What I use my S1 for every day.
Notification butler
Phone calls, both answer and initiate
Initiate texts or reply to incoming
Calculator
To Do lists
Timer.
Change radio and volume settings on my phone
Watch with calendar
Standalone calendar
Reply to emails or open links using Opera on the watch
What I use it for weekly at least
Browser
Weather forecast
Radar
Music player, be it standalone or controlling the phones player
Map exercise session while outside using s-health.
Occasionally I use it for games/puzzles
Not one of these things isn't available on my phone but I can leave my phone at home or in my locker at work and still have full functionality.
It took a little time to acclimate to using my watch instead of my phone when I had both with me but leaving my phone at home lib purpose helped develop the new habit.
